Looking For Lead Distributors

Once you are ready to go with a program, your first task is prospecting for consumers and/or prospective distributors. In seeking your distributors, do this as soon as possible

to the chances of your contacts joining your downline. For if you wait, someone else may contact them first, so you may find your hot prospects already signed up under someone else when you call.

The first stage of prospecting is developing and contacting leads. One common approach is to list all the persons you know and contact them first. While some successful distributors recruit only those they know, many others go outside their circle of friends and sponsor mostly strangers, as Debbie Ballard suggests in Secrets of Multi-Level Fortune Building.

Either strategy will work. It depends on your circle of friends and acquaintances. If you know a large number of people who have been in sales, business, or promotional work, you may be able to recruit easily from your own network. But if your contacts have limited business experience or come from fields that are traditionally far afield from business, such as the arts or academia, you will probably have to reach out much farther.

The key is to decide what works for you. Some people don't have to go beyond their own network for active distributors. But most do.

Thus, most of your customers and distributors will probably be strangers. But that can have certain advantages too, since often these strangers will be more receptive to your message, whereas people you know may be most skeptical since they already have an image of you as one kind of person. So when you start marketing a new program and changing your life, people may be dubious or wait to see what happens, but after you start to succeed, they will generally become more receptive, for you have proved yourself.

So, of course, contact the people you know first—some may be your most ardent supporters and most loyal distributors. But if some are critical or ridicule what you are doing, don't let that discourage you. Just go on to others who are more receptive, and let the skeptics come around when they are ready.
