Learn About The Field Represented By Your Product

Learn what you can about the field represented by your product, so you can show you have a general background of knowledge in this area which adds to your credibility.

Anyone who is already a practitioner in this field, such as a doctor, nurse, or dentist, who is marketing a health product on the side already has a leg up on other distributors, because he or she already can speak with authority on the field. So people are more apt to believe what he or she says about a new product. His or her expertise in the field generally carries over to provide a broader endorsement of the product—not only by that distributor who has decided to market the product, but by the field generally of which that person is a representative.

If this isn't your field, you can still compensate for this by getting as knowledgeable as you can by reading about it, going to workshops and seminars, and having discussions and presentations about the subject with other distributors representing this product. For instance, if you are marketing a vitamin or food supplement, learn about nutrition: read books on life extension techniques; join a local health and fitness group.

Also, to give yourself more credibility in this area, perhaps put together a little bio sheet in which you highlight those activities or jobs you have held in the past which relate most strongly to what you are doing. For example, say you are marketing tablets to raise energy and reduce stress, and you at one time worked in the field of recreation. Feature this in your bio to show how you worked with people to reduce stress and help people relax through recreational activities. Then, include your bio as part of your presentation folder or handouts you share with people to help show your knowledge and credibility in marketing this product. With other general-use products, this kind of credibility building is not necessary or less necessary, because the products may speak for themselves and just about anybody can be convincing with a modicum of knowledge about the product. But health products tend to bring out that skeptic and prove it to me quality in people-they want to feel more certain the product will work and be qood for them. It's much like the sort of thing that happens when people go to doctors. They want to feel the doctor knows and can tell them what to do; they want to feel a sense of trust and reliance from an authority that knows. Well much in the same say, when you market a health product, people feel more comfortable buying and using the product if they feel it is coming from a credible, reliable source.

Thus, be willing to spend that extra time it may take to become well-informed and knowledgeable, not only about your specific product and its competitors, as you might for any product, but also about the field of your product generally You'll be more convincing, more self-assured, and will make more sales that way. In fact, with this extra knowledge, you can better know what people need and help to show them this, which can help you up your sales as well.
