How To Make An Attractive Presentation Manual

Once you decide on the general order of your presentation, organize your supporting materials and put them in an attractive binder to make your presentation more professional. As noted earlier, a binder allows you to shift pages around, so you can change the order of your materials if you want to adapt your presentation to your prospect.

While you may be able to use the training manuals or marketing kits provided by some companies for presentation purposes, often these are extremely detailed and are more for your use than for making a presentation to others. Still, it is important to have this detailed product information on hand, or include it in the appendix of your manual, so it's readily accessible if someone asks about it.

You can dress up your manual by placing individual sheets of paper in plastic sheet protectors. These protectors come in various styles and usually have a three-hole-punched side panel, so you can slip each sheet of paper into its own plastic pocket and don't have to punch holes into the paper itself.

In organizing your manual, separate each section (such as 'Introduction,' "Product or Service,' 'The Company,' 'Sponsor Support,' and 'Marketing Plan') with a divider or introduce it with a title page. You can use rub-on letters to make headlines for this page. Either rub them directly onto the divider or title page or make a master copy of your title page layout on white paper. Then run off a copy on colored paper or good bond paper.

Other excellent additions to your manual include charts, graphs, photographs, and other visual materials. If these are not provided by your company or sponsor, you can develop your own fairly easily. For example, cut some pictures out of magazines to illustrate a point. Or transform raw sales figures into a bar graph showing how sales have grown each year.

Some local touches help, too, to show how you have been using the program yourself, who is in your local organization, and what your group has been doing. For example, a section on the backup support your organization provides might include

• a directory of local people and where they live
• a calendar of local activities
• a copy of the local newsletter
• a chart showing your immediate sponsor and the people in your immediate downline, so prospects can see how they will fit into your organization
• copies of checks received by local distributors or sales reps or by leaders of your sales group

You can also include an appendix for more technical product and marketing information. You won't plan to discuss this in your initial presentation, but you have it readily accessible for backup support if anyone asks.

Finally, after you decide what to include in what order, prepare a table of contents so you can easily refer to everything, and if you change the order, change the table of contents accordingly. Also, if your prospect wants to flip through your manual a table of contents will facilitate this.
