| | CADILLAC STS (1998) CAR HISTORYCar review on CADILLAC STS The Cadillacs
of the 1980s had suffered dreadfully from old age and hence the company
lost many sales to the likes of BMW and Mercedes. This continued through
to 1992 until Cadillac completely revamped their line-up and included
a new STS. This won Automobile magazine's 'Car of the Year' in 1992, but
it didn't end there as Cadillac worried the competition more with the
introduction of its high-tech Northstar V8 in 1993. From 1997 a new STS
(Seville Touring Sedan) arrived, and it was by far the best yet, with
the company so confident they even built them in right-hand-drive form
to sell in Europe. The suspension used MacPherson struts and a multi-link
rear, with variable shocks. The interior was fully loaded even in basic
trim, while the engine could run 100,000 miles (160,000 km) between tune-ups
and could limp home 60 miles (96 km) without coolant.
