Perhaps because Disneyland is nearby, this branch of the Hilton chain is more garish than the others. As you enter the lobby, you wish they'd turn down the volume of the fountain because the rush of the water is so loud it's hard to hear yourself think. However, in customary Hilton style, management makes everything easy at this city within a city. Arrangements for outings to Disney-land and the region's other attractions are made with a wave of the concierge's hand. The 1,600 rooms and suites—some of them in a pretty, landscaped garden area—are uniformly cozy, designed for maximum efficiency and with plenty of amenities, including a free continental break-fast. They are spacious, decorated in modern style, in shades of mauve, pink, and green, with pale wood furniture. The excellent fitness center includes weight-training, aerobics and spinning (stationary bike) classes, and a basketball court. Guests also enjoy the spa, full-service salon, and gargantuan pool, replete with a pool bar and Jacuzzi, the rooftop gardens, and the sun decks. The hotel also offers lobby shops, a foreign currency exchange, a post office, and airline and car-rental offices. Dining options include Hastings Grill, Pavia for Italian specialties, and

studio suites, which are decorated in deep pink with matching floral bed spreads. A large pool tucked into a neatly landscaped garden courtyard is preferred by apres-Disneygoers, while the children's wading pool is almost always splashing with young bathers. Complimentary continen-talbreakfast is served in the courtyard or the dining room. For the complete Disneyland Resort experience, this three-tower, 1136 rooms-and-suites complex is the place to be. Just inside the lobby of the main building you'll be greeted by three-foot bronze statues of Mickey and Minnie. (Otherwise, the polished-granite, high-ceilinged lobby is surprisingly understated.) The hotel offers a variety of room choices, all of which are spacious, comfortable, and tastefully done in pastel pinks and blues. Suites have separate sitting areas with dark-wood furniture.Although most guests beeline it via tram or foot each morning to the Dis-
neyland gates, there is reason to hang around. The large swimming pool is a blessing on swelter-ing summer days; the Team Mickey fitness center works out the adults; and a fun kids' arcade with miniature remote-control stock-car racing keeps the kids preoccupied. The hotel's dining
options include Grenville's Steakhouse, Hook's Point, and Montreal Cafe, but the family favorite is Goofy's Kitchen, where children dine with Disney characters. Afternoon tea at the hotel's Practically Perfect Tea is another popular pastime. Another bonus: early entrance to Disneyland.

Disneyland Pacific Hotel /

Formerly the Pan Pacific Hotel, this 4.6-acre property—15 stories, 502 rooms—has been completely refurbished and appropriated by Disney to become part and parcel of the Disneyland Resort. Entering the lobby, small guests will be charmed by the playful Goofy, Mickey, and Daffy figurines on their bright yellow pedestals that dominate the area. The rooms are spacious and clean, decorated in pastel shades of pink and blue, and have such amenities as Disney-themed bathroom toiletries, individual temperature controls, refrigerators upon request, irons, ironing boards, hair dryers, and voice-message machines. There's also a fitness center, a
gigantic pool, baby-sitting services, a foreign currency exchange, and interpreters available upon request. The staff is very helpful and extremely patient—crucial attributes when working within such a bustling establishment. Mary Poppins tea is served each afternoon, while for breakfast
with Minnie and a magic show there's Goofy's Kitchen at the adjoining Disneyland Hotel. The Coffee House is open late, but the best dining room in either of the two hotels is Yamabuki, where Japanese food reigns. The more casual option is the PCH Grill, where burgers, pizza,and other standard American fare are served. The best thing about the place, of course, is its location; it's just a short walk to the Anaheim Convention Center and right next to Disneyland, and guests are entitled to extra park privileges such as early entrance. $$$; AE, DC, DIS, JCB,
