PREPAID LEGAL SERVICES MEMBER LETTERS

Dear Pre-Paid Legal,

I am writing to express my thanks for your wonderful service, and to tell you about the great experience that I had when I used my membership for the first time. I bought my membership on November 6, 1996 and made a call to the Provider Lawyer on November 12,1996. The lawyer called me back within four hours! I can't even get my friends to call me back that fast!

I own a limousine service, and I have been leasing a credit card terminal for my business. I know when I signed my lease agreement for the terminal, it was for a two-year lease. The salesman that I was dealing with told me that once he got the leasing agent to sign the form, I would then get my copy. I never got it, so I called the company and wrote to them several times, and got no response.

As time went by, being a new business and having so many things to do when setting up a new business, I forgot to follow up on getting my copy of the lease agreement. In the meantime, the leasing company was sold, and no one seemed to have my paperwork.

Two years down the road, I knew that the lease should be up, and my bank account should not be getting drafted for the lease payment any longer. The monthly lease fee was still being charged to my account, so I called the credit card service that was now in charge of my lease.

I stated that I signed a two-year lease, but had no copy of it. Then I was told that they had a copy of my lease, but it was for four years, not two as I had understood it to be. I asked them to fax me a copy of it, which they did.

The part that stated the lease was for 24 months had the "2" scratched out and an "8" inserted next to the "4" to make it look like 48 months, not 24. Two other dollar amounts were changed, and none of these changes were initialed or approved by me. I told them that I did not agree to, or even know about these changes, and that I was not going to be held to the lease.

Of course, no one was paying any attention to what I said, so then I told them that they would have to deal with my lawyer. I don't think they believed me, but shortly after our conversation, they got a letter from "my lawyer"! (I love saying that!)

Within a week, the credit card service called me, apologizing and saying that the lease was fulfilled, and what my buy-out amount would be, which by the way was unacceptable, as stated in the letter from my lawyer. I referred back to the letter and told them what was acceptable.

One day later, I got another call from the customer service representative stating that my request had been approved for the lower buy-out amount.

By having this issue taken care of by a lawyer, I saved enough money to pay for my Pre-Paid Legal membership for 12 years! (I calculated it, and I am not exaggerating!) I know how valuable my membership is, and I will never be without it!
