FLOATING LAMINATE

A "floating" laminate floor is neither glued down nor nailed down, but instead "floats" on a 1/8-inch-thick foam pad that you lay over your subfloor or concrete. The tongue-and-groove edges are glued together, transforming single pieces into a solid mass. Some laminate floors have plastic, instead of real wood veneers.

• Can be used on basement concrete floors with a plastic vapor barrier under the pad.
• Cannot be refinished.

Floor Preparation

You can lay the floating floor over ir wood subfloors and concrete. However, as with glue-down laminates, be sure the floors are flat and level, with no more than a 1/8-inch rise or fall in every 10 feet; otherwise, the floor will bounce and feel soft.

How To Install

To assemble the floor, run a bead of glue in grooves and tap in the mating piece. Wipe away any squeeze-out before the glue dries. Leave a 1/2-inch gap at the walls for wood movement.
